The city’s first inclusive university school and nation-wide pilot project for practical teacher training run in cooperation with the University of Cologne has been constructed on the site of the former Helios electrical engineering company in Cologne’s Ehrenfeld district. It’s not just children and young people who will be taught here, but their teachers too, and unlike other schools, it won’t be behind closed doors. Instead, it will be open to the community and serve as their ‘school quarter’.

Our contribution to making this ‘open learning landscape’ a reality was to design, manufacture and assemble diverse steel and composite steel elements. In addition to five steel trusses 4 metres tall and 30 metres long spanning the three-pitch sports hall, we installed composite beams up to 23 metres long, steel stairs, and bracing elements. In total spannverbund was responsible for 900 tonnes of steelwork – from design to installation.
